about

Cis De Gendt (b. 1999, Belgium) makes music, performs, and organizes. His artistic interest lies in bringing the (musical) situation to the foreground. Cis works towards this by proposing an engagement with a work’s self-reflexivity regarding its (perceptual-)material processes, often by dealing with the particular mechanics, mediation circuits and listenings of the recording and performance format.

He has collaborated with Lawrence McGuire, Angelina Nonaj, Qihang Li, Andrejs Poikāns, Germaine Sijstermans, Jacob Eckhardt, and Roc Montoriol. As an assistant, he as worked with Áine O'Dwyer and Gabriel Paiuk. Cis is currently studying at The Institute Of Sonology, The Hague.

Cis furthermore runs default den haag: a non-profit curatorial initiative focused on the presentation of international contemporary experimental music and sound art performances in The Hague, curating and organizing their nomadic sound series since 2022, next to occasionally hosting accompanying talks and lectures.
